Description

Grown in the lush Andean mountains of southern Tolima, Colombia Planadas Organic comes from the passionate smallholder farmers of ASOBRIS (The Association of Ecological Agricultural and Livestock Producers Brisas del Quebradón). This organic-certified coffee is cultivated at elevations of 1,550–2,200 MASL, where cool mountain air and rich volcanic soil create ideal conditions for vibrant, complex cup profiles.

Founded in 2014 with a mission to improve rural livelihoods through fairer trade and sustainable farming, ASOBRIS uses traditional yet precise processing methods: mechanical pulping, 18–24 hour fermentation, thorough washing, and sun drying for 15 days, followed by a final mechanical drying step for batch consistency.

In the cup: Expect aromas of chocolate, dark spices, and dried fruits, leading into deep flavours of chocolate, spiced brown sugar, and raisins. A smooth roasted almond aftertaste, balanced by medium plum-like acidity and a medium round body, creates a satisfying and versatile cup.

This is a beautifully structured organic coffee, ideal for roasters looking to showcase Colombian sweetness and spice with ethical sourcing at its core.

Excelso EP is a grading term used for Colombian green coffee beans based on bean size and export quality.

  • Excelso refers to the bean size, which is slightly smaller than the top-grade Supremo beans but still high quality. Excelso beans are typically screen size 15/16 and are widely used in specialty coffee due to their excellent flavour and consistency.
  • EP10 (European Preparation): This means the beans are carefully sorted to remove defects and foreign matter, ensuring clean, export-grade coffee. The “10” refers to the maximum number of defects per 300g, which is still well within specialty-grade standards. EP coffees are hand-sorted to meet the high expectations of specialty buyers worldwide.
